• TK8 Easynote - This freeware program allows you to place virtual sticky notes around your computer desktop to use as reminders. Not only is this a novel and modern way to organise yourself, it also saves on buying new sticky label pads and using all that paper. TK8 Easynote allows users to change the size and position of every note and then set different priorities to them. The program will even alert you when particular tasks need to be completed.

• Opera - A fun, free and powerful Web browser application with a plethora of integrated features. Opera includes an e-mail and newsgroup client, file transfer manager, tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, integrated search, keyboard shortcuts, BitTorrent support and also integrated IRC (Internet Relay Chat). In addition, the browser can be customised by arranging the toolbars, icons and layout, or via a variety of different skins which are available online.
  > Opera is an exceptionally secure Web browser and provides a number of features to help keep you safe when surfing the Web: content blocker, fraud protection, cookie control, password manager and visual feedback on site security levels. The browser also supports 256 bit encryption, the strongest standard encryption for the Web.
  > Opera's "Magic Wand" feature allows you to quickly include your details in online forms.

• Popup Manager - This handy little program downloads in next to no time and attaches itself to Internet Explorer versions 5 and 6. When a pop-up window is discovered, Popup Manager will leap into action and block the advert, then notify you via a small image. Afterwards, you are able to view information about the blocked pop-up. Note: donations are accepted for this free service.

• Free WaterAid Program - It is said that most people drink too few glasses of water each day. This unique freeware application from WaterAid (a water charity) will remind you to drink more water on a daily basis. Once installed, the application sits in the background and springs into action with an alert message when you're due for another glass. You may also download a free "Drink More Water" free screensaver.

• EasyTerm - A basic Telnet terminal application that's ideal for beginners. EasyTerm supports a number of different protocols besides Telnet, such as SMTP and POP3 (for e-mail communications). Sessions using the terminal window can be saved for future reference using a log file and EasyTerm also supports ANSI colours on its display. The program is compatible with most versions of Microsoft Windows.

• Netscape - Although no longer the force it once was, Netscape's browser is still a fast and reliable program with plenty of impressive features. As with its predecessors, the package contains a fully functioning e-mail and newsgroup client, along with an address book, tabbed browsing, integrated pop-up blocker, RSS feed support, multiple profiles, plus enhanced security features necessary for keeping you safe and well on the Net.

  > Netscape now offers anti-spyware countermeasures, ideal for users who download files on a regular basis.

• Microsoft Windows Media Encoder - Here's a useful freeware companion program for Microsoft Windows Media Player. Windows Media Encoder allows you to publish content suitable for users of Windows Media Player (or any other compatible program). You can produce your own videos, radio broadcasts and more. It includes multi-channel sound and numerous data capture options.

• Deepnet Explorer - If you've been considering alternatives for Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser, why not give this program a whirl? Deepnet Explorer is three programs in one: a freeware Web browser, P2P client and news browser. Deepnet users have the luxury of superior Internet security, tabbed browsing, content filters, auto form fillers, keyword navigation and much more.

• Klipfolio - A fantastic and completely free program that brings news and other information directly to your computer desktop. Klipfolio is multi-lingual and can be customised with hundreds of popular sources, e.g. you can customise your program to display the weather in your country, or sumarise the latest news. Stocks, shares, finance reports, even holidays can be added to the Klipfolio.

• Internet Junk Buster - This program filters out unwanted banner adverts and blocks Web site cookies from entering your machine. Their Web site has detailed information about how people can invade your privacy whilst online. Read their "Alert on Primary", it contains everything you will need to know about protecting yourself whilst online, reading e-mail or generally surfing the Internet.

• Adobe Acrobat - A widely used program, ideal for distributing DTP documents over the Internet, or for compacting reviews, reports, etc. into an easy-to-read computer format. For another person to read the work you have created, they also must have the program that reads PDF files. This can be downloaded in Windows and Macintosh versions, as can updates and official Adobe patches.

• Mozilla - A thoroughly fantastic open-source Web browser, incorporating an integrated e-mail program, Web building tool, address book and IRC chat client. Mozilla (what the popular "Netscape" browser is based on), allows you to open multiple sites in one window by using tabs. It also has a useful pop-up blocker and managers for passwords, cookies, forms and images.
