• Free HTML Tutorial and Code Examples - This site provides beginners with a free HTML tutorial class and includes, in an easy to understand manner, all the basic knowledge required to begin coding your own Web site. They also have a growing collection of coding examples that you can refer to. Some of the topics you will find here include: elements, comments, text, formatting, links, images, forms, and more.

• CSS Generator Wizard - A well-designed site, offering a free CSS code generator wizard for Webmasters. The free generator is available online but if you prefer, you can also download it to your desktop. The wizard allows you to quickly create CSS style definitions, which can be used to determine the presentation of your pages. They also include some free articles related to the topic of CSS.

• ShortLink.co.uk - This site has an attractive design and provides a free "URL shortening" service, ideal for Webmasters who have complicated and hard-to-remember Web addresses. Setting up a shorter link here is very straight-forward. You simply enter a long URL into the box and ShortLink will create a cool and far sexier Web address in a similar format to: "www.shortlink.co.uk/123". 

• Bravenet - The immensely popular Bravenet offers all the free Webmaster services you're likely to need in one convenient location. They provide dozens of free services to help build, promote, enhance and monetize Web sites, many of which are remotely hosted. A free help centre is always available to help you with any of your Webmaster questions, plus you can customise many of their services to your specification.
  > Bravenet provides a number of services to help promote your site, including a free blog service, hit counter, guestbook, horoscope generator, headline boxes, online calendar, URL re-direction, etc.
  > Additionally, they also provide a range of service to help enhance your site: tell a friend service, Web ring, free links directory, traffic exchange, site search and Web cartoons.
  > They also provide free tools for interesting with guests: chat rooms, feedback forms and Web polls.
  > Bravenet's affiliate program pays $1.00 for each person you refer to their network.

• Opt.To - Here's a superb free URL redirection service for Webmasters. Opt.To will turn a long Web site address (such as those provided by many free Web space providers) into a short and easy to remember URL. This service includes numerous domains to choose from, e.g. happy.to, ilike.to, beauty.to, photo.to, etc. Opt.To includes no pop-ups (although it is advert supported) and functions via a speedy redirection server.

• Bpath - Here's a high quality and reliable Webmaster resources site, providing a great mixture of free and commercial services. Bpath offers free online polls, message boards, banner exchanges, guestbooks, hit counters, mail forms and lots more besides. As well as this, they provide a number of free tools to help you promote your Web site, such as the "tell a friend" site announcement service.

• Webmaster Resources 101 - A clean and easy to navigate site, containing thousands of links, resources and numerous other tools for Web developers and Webmasters. Here, you can find tutorials, articles, templates, promotion advice, scripts and even software downloads, all related to the topic of constructing Web sites. Polls, a message board and the latest Webmaster news is also included at this site.

• SiteGear.net - A cool Webmaster-related Web site that provides a large directory of resources, ranging from Web site promotion services to remotely hosted content. They also have a handy selection of their own tools, which you can use to tweak your site and maintain its popularity. These include a meta tag generator, search engine submitter, search engine ranker and even a free "webfeed" wizard.

• Zeroweb.org - This well-designed and clean looking Web site offers a good variety of free Web site layouts (templates), graphics, clipart and various other Web building tools. This includes a free URL re-direction service and guestbook, but we are informed that the range of advert-free tools will increase in the future. Zeroweb.org also offers a number of links to other interesting free Webmaster resources sites.

• NE1.net - This site provides a free URL re-direction service for Web site's with lengthy, confusing URLs. If you're a Webmaster and wish to increase your site's visitor count, a short Web address is an excellent way to generate repeat visits (in fact it's bordering on crucial). NE1.net allows you to choose from two sub-domains: "yoursite.ne1.net" and "yoursite.r8.org". The "free" version of this service is advert supported.

• GoTop Link Exchange - This revolutionary service allows Webmasters to locate other Webmasters wishing to trade links. Only Web sites who are interested in reciprocal linking are within the GoTop directory, so if you like, you can browse through the listings and approach numerous sites with an offer. New sites, in particular, will benefit considerably from link exchanges such as these.

• Easy Horoscope - Here's a completely free service for Webmasters. With Easy Horoscope, you can enhance your pages with a Flash daily horoscope and then customise the design of it to match your Web site's style. It's also very simple to implement - you simply copy the HTML code they provide and paste it into your page. Note: you'll need the Macromedia Flash plug-in to access this Web site.

• ZapZone Network - This service has continued to thrive over a number of years and today offers free, co-branded e-mail accounts that Webmasters can use to add extra functionality and loyalty to their site. Basically, ZapZone acts as the middleman to provide your very own e-mail service to visitors and handles the storage and hosting of the pages for e-mail addresses resembling " anything@yoursite.zzn.com".

• 123exit - A completely free service that aims to attract more visitors to your site by means of a 4:3 ratio pop-under exchange. As a Webmaster, you would place a small piece of HTML code into your site (typically on your home page), then display pop-unders for other 123exit members. In return, others using the service would display your pop-under and as a result, you begin recycling traffic.

• Exit Exchange - This completely free service allows you to significantly increase your Web site's traffic by exchanging pop-up adverts with other "Exit Exchange" members. Although pop-up adverts can be extremely irritating when they're not relevant, Exit Exchange allows you to target your audience by selecting only sites similar to your own. The more you show, the higher your traffic is.

• Sparklit - Offers a fine Web poll that can be customised with your own questions, colours and designs. It's ideal for gaining feedback from visitors and making your site more interactive. You can implement up to 25 different questions, choose from 12 different designs and play around with more features than any other service. You will also fine a hit counter, guestbook and ad-rotator here.

• Alxnet.com - One of our favourite Web sites for providing a whole plateful of Webmaster goodies. Alxnet.com offers a free guestbook service, Web poll, news feeder, traffic booster and an Internet quiz that will keep your visitors entertained. Their site is easy to navigate and contains lots of detailed information about their free services. Note: English, Norwegian and Swedish translations.

• InternetSeer.com - Use this free service to monitor your Web site's uptime/downtime. InternetSeer will probe a host every hour and check for any problems that will stop visitors from viewing your pages. If a problem is found (such as a connection refused error), they will automatically send an e-mail to you and monitor progress until your site is back online. We use it, and it works great.

• Advanced HTML Constructor - A fast-loading Web site that provides samples of HTML code together with information on writing it without a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor. There are useful links to HTML editing software downloads (if Notepad is a bit too drab for you), and their script archive is fairly complete. It contains over 12 UNIX compatible scripts for free use.

• HTML Goodies - A popular and excellent resource for the new HTML author. HTML Goodies (an Internet.com site) provides everything you need to get started with HTML and provides realistic answers to questions that a person new to the language might ask. Tips are available and they advise you on which books are best to buy, including their own book called "HTML Goodies" (surprisingly enough).

• Elated Web Toolbox - The Elated Web Toolbox is an an all-in-one Web design resource. Free buttons, bars, animated GIFs, bullets, backgrounds, clipart, stock photos and Adobe Photoshop actions are all included, plus free Web templates, which you can build an entire site with. Elated also includes Web design tips, Photoshop tips, tutorials and has a great layout that's pleasing to navigate.
