• Lord of the Rings Desktop Freebies - A truly superb site, providing free desktop goodies for your computer. Follow the "Imagery" link then proceed to the "Downloads" section for free Lord of the Rings wallpaper, screen savers, e-cards, AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) icons and Winamp skins. At this site, you will also find the Lord of the Rings trailer, stories, cast information and more besides.

• Free EastEnders Desktop Freebies - This BBC Web site allows you to download free screen savers and wallpaper, featuring characters from the popular UK soap-opera, EastEnders. Here, you'll also find a small selection of "Screen Mates" (desktop buddy programs). By using the search facility at this site, you can locate goodies featuring your favourite characters within seconds. 

• BigDates Screensaver - A free reminder service in the form of a fun and colourful screen saver, featuring an assistant called Dottie, who manages your personalised calendar. Using the BigDates screen saver, you can keep track of all your important events throughout the year. The program is completely free to download but only functions on the 1024x768 screen resolution.

• Free Charlie's Angels Screen Saver - Download a freeware screen saver featuring the crime-fighting trio, Charlie's Angels. This version is centred around their most recent film, "Full Throttle", starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. Please note: this screen saver is only available for Microsoft Windows operating systems. The file size is 2.79 bytes.

• Free Christmas Screensavers - One of the best quality collections of Christmas screen savers on the Internet. The "Free Christmas Screen Savers" site is fast-loading and offers information, such as file sizes, the author of the screen saver and operating system platform they run on. Be sure to view their second page of listings (there is a small link at the footer of the page which will take you there). 

• Various Free Screensavers - Here's a collection of very unique and quite quirky freeware screensavers, ranging from "Hamster Dance" to a screen saver showing Microsoft "Big Cheese", Bill Gates, getting a pie thrown in his face. All of the screen savers listed here come complete with a short introduction and file size, so you are exactly aware of what you're downloading.

• Winamp Skins - The popular audio player, Winamp, is possibly one of the most skinnable programs you'll find on the Internet. Here, you will find hundreds of skins to download free of charge. Their directory of downloadable skins is extensive and some of the categories include: abstract, anime, movies, retro, sports, music, etc. Designers can also submit their own skins for addition.

• IconsPLUS - A fantastic site for comic book, sci-fi, TV and film desktop icons. Here, all the icons featured are completely free for private non-commercial usage. Please note, however, that you may not use the icons to spruce up your Web site. These are only for use on your personal computer. Free fonts are also available at IconsPLUS, along with some unique desktop patterns.

• Free Themes - On entering the Free Themes Web site you instantly recognise that it is part of the Tucows Network (for those who don't know, Tucows is a leading Internet download portal). They provide speedy download times and have desktop themes for almost any operating system. Mirror locations in major cities and countries are also available to help speed up the download process.

• Free Screensavers from Ireland - As well as offering some premium services, the Ireland resource site has a good selection of free screen savers. They include "Images of Ireland", "Saint Patrick's Life", "Shamrocks" and "Guinness Beer". Be sure to visit regularly because they are constantly adding more and more free screen savers. Note: be sure to only download their freeware savers.

• Easter Bunny Screen Saver - This personal Web site is home to a free screen saver featuring Easter bunnies hopping around the screen. As a user, you may select the number of bunnies featured (one to ten), the speed, the background colour and can also add a password. Note: this screen saver is compatible with all Windows versions and is 171K in file size, compressed in a .zip.

• ScreensaverShot.com - ScreensaverShot.com has an unusual site design and provides access to over 1000 different screensavers. They have exceptionally large categories containing animal, animated, machine, sport, holiday and even music screen savers. One of the most useful things about the site is they provide small thumbnail previews (to avoid download disappointment).
