MP3 Sound Files
MP3s are fast becoming the
most popular sound file. In fact, by the time you read this,
they will probably have become the most talked about, shared
and most downloaded audio file on the Internet. MP3s are
very large and will not fit onto a floppy disk unlike MIDIs
or WAVs. MP3s have CD quality sound and to play them, you'll
need a program such as Winamp, (see our software section for
audio apps).

Free
MIDI and WAV Sounds
Here, you'll
find a collection of sites that offer free MIDI files and
WAV sounds. Both can be used simply for entertainment value,
or on a Web page, where sound can be integrated. It is worth
noting that although MIDIs and WAVs are not as popular as
they once were with the arrival of MP3, many are still
available on the Internet. Famous speeches, snippets of
audio and simple tunes are all ready for download.

Free
Internet Radio
During the past few years
there has been a big increase in the number of radio
stations broadcasting over the Net. Ideally, you'll require
a broadband connection to listen to the webcasts
hassle-free, although 56K dial-up modems will do if you
don't mind the odd broadcast interruption. Here, you can
tune-in to international stations or even listen to more
"local" or "regional" stations. The
choice is entirely yours.
